Judging

Last week in our Animal Science Lab we had the opportunity to tour the 3rd largest sale barn in the United States in Woodward, OK. We learned the ins-and-outs of running a sale barn from the owner Jerry Nine. It was really an awesome experience. Jerry informed us that most of the cattle ranches around Woodward had either sold a large portion of their cattle or weaned their calves early due to the drought in that part of the country. Keep all the farmers and ranchers in that part of the country in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you again to Jerry for having the SCCC Animal Science class out to tour your facilities!

The first judging practice of the year went down this weekend in Clovis, NM. It was roughly a five hour drive down to the fairgrounds where we were judging at. It was awesome to experience another county fair in another state. So many differences! It's  been a blast getting to be closer with the friends with the judging team. We are eleven kids coming from completely different backgrounds and view points- all here for one common goal. We have the ones that are talkative, and the ones that are not. We have the funny ones, and the serious ones. And we all mesh into this awesome group! I can't wait to see what the future holds for SCCC Judging Team!!!

Till Next Time,
Lindsay

Well yesterday (August 13, 2011) was the day. The day I packed up what I've known as home for  the last 18 years and threw it to the wind. I loaded everything but the kitchen sink into my car and made the 6 hour drive to my new home for the next two years. Seward County Community College in Liberal, KS. So after a rocky morning start we got on the road around 9. We got into Liberal around 3:30. We went and registered and got my key to my dorm. Then later that night I met my roommate!! She is awesome and will really enjoy getting to know her more. After the long day of excitement we had a BBQ in the courtyard, where I got to meet a large portion of the team who I will be spending a lot of time with this school year. They all seem like a great group of kids! I'm so excited to be out here and to be following my dreams.

God Bless,
Lindsay

I have always loved showing and judging livestock. In fall of 2011 I will be attending Seward County Community College in Liberal, KS to be apart of their Livestock Judging team.  This is where I'll keep you up-to-date on how judging is going, and how life in Liberal is. I move out August 13th, so don't expect much on this page prior to that :)
